Stephen Mizell

Lead Pastor
Stephen Mizell is the Lead Pastor at Open Door Church. Stephen and his wife Barbara, started attending Open Door on Easter Sunday 2005. In January of 2008 he came on staff and became the Lead Pastor in October, 2010. Stephen has a call to impact northeastern North Carolina with life-giving congregations in rural communities. Sharing practical truths from God’s word every Sunday with Open Door is just one way he accomplishes this. He is committed to raising up leaders both locally and around the world through the John Maxwell’s organization EQUIP and the John Maxwell Team by teaching leadership principles in many countries around the world.
Stephen is also an entrepreneur and has owned several businesses over the last 20 years. He and Barbara have four children and three grandchildren. Wendy Korbusieski

Business Administrator
Wendy serves as the Business Administrator for Open Door Church. She provides direction for financial and operational functions, and oversees finance, accounting, human resources and project management. She has a BS in Mathematics from ECU and was a math teacher for grades 6-12 for ten years, as an assistant principal before coming to the church. Wendy is dedicated to making sure the church operates with excellence as it is a reflection of Christ. She, her husband Todd and their two children have been a part of Open Door since the fall of 2009

Sheryl Daughety

Children’s Pastor

As Children’s Pastor, Sheryl leads birth through fifth grade in our Open Door Kidz ministry. Sheryl grew up in Edenton. She and her husband Kevin have two children and have been attending Open Door Church since 2005. She believes it is important to help kids see that God is extraordinary, exciting and evident everywhere they look. Sheryl is passionate about helping parents see themselves as their children’s greatest spiritual leaders and helping families grow an everyday kind of faith. She also has a background as an art teacher at a private school as well as private art lessons.

Zack Unkenholz

Youth Pastor
As Youth Pastor, Zack leads students sixth through twelfth grade in our Open Door Youth ministry. Zack grew up in the suburbs of New York City and has a history of serving in ministry. He was a volunteer youth leader at his home church for three years and would later serve at K-LOVE and Air1 Radio for two years within their New York offices. Zack followed God’s call to youth ministry and moved with his wife Jess and their daughter Olive down to Florida to take an assistant youth director position. Now his calling has taken them to Edenton and they couldn’t be more excited to come alongside Open Door to bring students closer to Christ.

Alyssa Bream

Media Pastor
As Media Pastor, Alyssa has a heart to tell stories of redemption, hope and love, as well as helping others be able to tell their own stories. With a degree in filmmaking and biblical studies from Evangel University, she also has a background in marketing and broadcasting. From starting an art gallery to managing marketing at a Chick-fil-A restaurant and directing the local news – the various experiences have all worked together to help manage all things media and video at Open Door. Alyssa and her husband Tyler have two boys, Judah & Wesley.

Chris Rexroad

Connections Pastor
Chris and his wife Jenni moved from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Hertford, North Carolina in December of 2022 when Chris joined the church staff as the Connections Pastor. They have two adult sons, Caleb and Carson, a daughter-in-law Kayla (Caleb’s wife) and their family dog Nala. Life groups and Next Steps are a great passion for Chris. He enjoys connecting people, helping in the next step of a person’s Christian journey, and growing disciples through practical teaching and life application. On a personal note, Chris enjoys soccer, the outdoors, house projects, spending time with his family, and traveling.

RuthAnn Manley

Administrative Assistant
RuthAnn welcomes visitors to the Edenton campus where she works part time at the front desk. She and her husband, Joe, retired to Edenton at the end of 2016. Blessing others by serving and supporting them behind the scenes brings her great joy.

Justin Smith

Tech Director
Justin joined our staff in February of 2023 as Tech Director. With a degree in Drama and Christian Ministries and minor in music from Campbell University, Justin has been serving in ministry since 2007. With a passion for seeing others come to Jesus through many creative means of worship, he strives to share Jesus in ways that bring the Gospel to life! Justin and his wife Asheton, have been blessed to grow-up in the Edenton area and serve alongside each other in local churches. Together they enjoy spending time with family and their dog, Dasher.

Daniel Holland

Content Producer
Daniel grew up attending Open Door Church. That’s where he found his passion for video production and where he met his wife, Rebecca. As a volunteer, he directed the live-stream services and shot and edited video. It has led to the full-circle moment of him being on staff. With a degree in Creative Writing, Daniel has a desire to tell stories through video. Daniel and his wife have one son, James.

Bertie Campus Staff

Jay Rivenbark

Campus Pastor

Jay Rivenbark serves as Campus Pastor at our Bertie County location. He is a long time member of Open Door Church and has served in various capacities including Administrative Pastor, Elder and Deacon. He retired in 2011 as a North Carolina Wildlife enforcement officer, and enjoys hunting, fishing and playing golf. He and his wife Sonia have two grown children and two grandchildren living in the area. His desire to see Bertie County reached with the Gospel through the loving, learning and leading emphasis of the church.

Jennifer Jackson

Worship Leader
Jennifer serves as Worship leader for Open Door Bertie campus. She has a passion to see People enter freely and fully into Worship. Before moving to North Carolina, Jennifer worked with a ministry out of Dallas Texas for four years, traveling across the country leading people into worship. Jennifer resides in Windsor with her three children Wade, Kyle, and Kadence.

Sharon Schwartz

Children’s Pastor
Sharon is the Children’s Pastor for Open Door Bertie Campus. She is blessed to lead children from birth to fifth grade. Her heart’s desire is to lead young people to Christ and then help grow in their relationship with Him. Sharon has three married children, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She has worked in children’s ministry for 42 years, here in the United States as well as on the mission field in Ireland. She is excited to see where God will lead Open Door Bertie kids as they are the future of the church.
