I have owned a nice pair of quality binoculars for a few years now. I use them often for many of my outdoor activities. When I am not actually afield, they stay in my truck within arm’s reach just in case I need them. With the many years of use have also come some maintenance issues with them as well. One of the eye relief caps has come off and recently I noticed a small crack in the frame. I have never intentionally abused the binoculars but repeated use has exposed them to extreme elements and an occasional fall or two. Recently, I started searching for my receipt in hopes that the binoculars may still be under some type of repair warranty. To my dismay, I could not locate the receipt. I contacted the manufacturer and was thrilled to learn that my binoculars are covered by a lifetime repair and replacement warranty (with or without a receipt)! Now that is a great deal! The company is so confident in their product that they are willing to give a lifetime guarantee. If the product fails or is damaged for whatever the reason, they will make it right. All I have to do is return the product to them for repair and they will fix it and send it back to me completely restored.

As I contemplated this scenario, my attention was drawn to a passage of scripture in Ephesians chapter 4 where the Apostle Paul advises us to live our lives in a way that pleases and honors God. He mentions several behaviors that “damage” our witness for Christ. Such things as lustful pleasures, lies and deception, uncontrolled anger, stealing, foul language, bitterness and slander among others. Like my binoculars, we may not intentionally engage in these destructive behaviors, but they have a way of “occurring” during the course of our daily lives. The repeated exposure to life creates many opportunities for wear and tear! The good news is, we are covered under warranty! That warranty  is found in verse 30 of chapter 4. “And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.”

There it is. God is so confident in his product (us) that He guaranteed that we will be saved on the day of redemption. Once we belong to Him (by grace through faith in Jesus Christ) the damages and failures of our everyday life (whether intentional or accidental) can and will be made right. We simply “return” to Him to be repaired and to correct our issues.

Verses 23-24 says to “let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God, truly righteous and holy.” Whatever issues or challenges that may have rendered you less than whole, that have left you feeling broken or damaged, remember, God has given you His lifetime warranty. Return to Him today and find complete restoration.
